The Achilles tendon is the band of tissue that connects the calf muscles at the back of lower leg to heel bone. Achilles tendonitis is the condition mostly occurs in athletes who have suddenly increased their speed or the distance of their run.

Diagnosing Achilles Tendonitis at Eravio

At Eravio Hospital, the doctors will discuss with you the origin of the pain and swelling, and how it started. They will also ask you about your daily activities to determine the root cause of the pain.

This discussion will also include the doctor asking you to stand, so they can observe the effect of this condition on your movements. Imaging tests are usually not common, but in case, the doctor does prescribe any, they will include the X-ray, MRI and/or CAT scans.

Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) for treating Achilles’ tendonitis

At Eravio Hospital, we use the Low-level Laser Therapy (LLLT) to treat Achilles tendonitis. For the same, we use the Photoniccs Laser Smart M 980 nm laser diode.

This treatment includes the following steps:

The treatment has the following steps:

  • The doctor places infra-red laser diode powered at low intensity (980 nm) at the shoulder where it pain.
  • The photons from the laser energy enter the mitochondria of the cells in the affected tissue.
  • The energy from the photons powers the mitochondria, allowing them to heal themselves. This reduces the inflammation and the resulting pain.

Other than LLLT, the doctors will also recommend a set of exercises and precautionary measures to be taken alongside the Achilles treatment.

Benefits of LLLT for treating Achilles’ tendonitis

  • Non-invasive therapy.
  • Quick recovery.
  • No scarring.
  • No adverse effects.
  • Lesser risk of recurrence if proper care is taken.
